Make Me A Blessing

Proverbs 27:9-14

Proverbs 27:10 is an interesting verse at first glance. When read within the wider context, one has the sense that this is simple wisdom. This is the practical, homespun, good-for-the-soul kind of wisdom that reminds you to both depend on and appreciate your neighbor. Perhaps the wisdom stretches a bit broader. You, in your own turn, are motivated to be the kind of neighbor whom others can depend on—a neighbor quick to offer welcome.

The idea of loving neighbor, offering welcome, and being a good neighbor seems like such an obvious, and yet such a needed message in our world right now. If we could grasp what this idea of neighbor is all about, would wars cease? If we could establish relationships of love with our neighbor, would angry voices be silenced? Might we believe that Jesus had peace in mind when He commanded us to love?

Dare to give a friendly wave or a caring chat today as you encounter your neighbor.
