Unity of the Church

Ephesians 2:14-22
One of the neat things I’ve noticed about really good architecture is its ability to incorporate different kinds of materials into one cohesive structure. Some of the best designs I’ve seen make use of various woods, metals, and stone materials to build something amazing.
For example, if someone held a piece of granite alongside an oak tree, we might not think of those two materials working together. However, shape them, form them, and build with them, and they could form an amazing kitchen.
Something similar happens in the church. People who were previously foreigners and strangers to one another become fellow citizens in the kingdom of God. Apart from the presence and work of Jesus, we were enemies “far away” from one another. Brought together in Christ by the power of the Spirit, however, we become a dwelling place for the very presence of God.
In a political, social, and even religious climate that is known for its divisiveness, it would be good to remember, live toward, and embody the unity that is the church.
