We Praise Thee, O God

December 20th, 2023

Luke 2:25-33

Waiting is not easy. It doesn’t matter if you are waiting on something wonderful or something painful—waiting is not easy. Patience is a virtue because it requires strength of character and maturity—which do not happen by chance.

Simeon embodies the sort of anticipatory waiting that is both the promise of the Christmas story and the promise of the coming kingdom. Scripture tells us that he was righteous and devout, patient and disciplined, teachable, and sensitive to the Spirit.

We would be wise to fashion our lives after Simeon. It must have taken enormous faith to wake up each day in anticipation of a promise that never seemed to materialize. God can supply us the faith we need to wait on Him.

How often do we quickly give up on the promises that God has whispered in our hearts? What are you waiting on? What has God promised you? Will you keep your hope in God’s absolute faithfulness even when the months or years seem long? God has a plan.
