We Have Everything In God
November 5th, 2023
1 Peter 5:1-7
One of the hardest things to teach people, and one of the hardest lessons to learn, is the difference between “wants” and “needs.” The more materialistic our community is, the more difficult it is to admit that the thing we say we need is really just something we want. God blesses His people with their hearts’ desires (wants). He promises to “meet all [our] needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). Jesus taught us that God knows all of our needs (Matthew 6:32). That’s good news.
King David wrote that we lack nothing when the Lord is our Shepherd. That simply means as God’s flock, as believers, we have everything we need. When we peel back all the things we just listed as needs down to the absolute necessity, we’re left with only one thing: the Shepherd. When The Lord is our Shepherd, He is all we need.
This week let’s not confuse our wants and our needs. Let’s not get greedy for stuff we don’t need. Let’s take time to thank God for being and providing all we need.

The Scripture is incorrect and should be Psalm 23.
