Everyone Is Accountable

Romans 3:9-20

Paul calls the Roman congregation (and us today) to the awareness that everyone is in the same boat: “the ground is level at the foot of the cross.”

Trying to follow and keep the letter of the law, which the Pharisees were so well known for, doesn’t bring righteousness, salvation, or holiness. The law only helps us identify where we’ve gone off course. We are each held accountable for our actions, for our behavior, for our words, and our intentions.

The good news is Christ gives us His righteousness. Through His life and faithfulness, Christ offers us His strivings. Through the invitation to live in the power and presence of the Holy Spirit we are given grace to live in Christ’s righteousness so that we pursue the path of Jesus’ way in the Spirit, growing in our awareness that we’re only made righteous and purified by grace through Christ’s work. By His grace we are being transformed into His image for the glory of God, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
