A Light to our Path

2 Chronicles 34:8-18

Hilkiah the priest was elated to have found the book of the law of Moses. King Josiah was restoring Yahweh as the God of Israel again. Hilkiah was ecstatic! The book of the law was their source-book for Israel: it was to set the parameters for their daily lives and their worship.

God’s holy word is our source-book and helps us in our daily lives. As we live as people of “the Book,” we are formed and trained by the Holy Spirit in the way of the Father’s holy love. Ultimately we see that love expressed and shown bodily in Jesus the Son.
Some churches have picked up the ancient practice of responding together after the worshipful act of reading Scripture. The reader declares, “This is the word of God for the people of God!” In a response of praise and worship the congregation exclaims together, “Thanks be to God!” The word of God through the Holy Spirit transforms us as we engage the way of Jesus for God’s glory.
