Singularity of Purpose
September 21st, 2023
Mark 10:17-27
Stop working for a moment. Stop planning. Take a deep breath and relax. Now we are ready to ponder what Jesus is saying to us in this passage.
Jesus is speaking of the singularity of purpose. He is helping us to set our priorities for today. Each of us face a daily plethora of choices for serving the Lord. Where are we to invest our energies for the greatest good of the kingdom of God?
Wealth of any sort demands maintenance, even the wealth of choices. The demands of maintenance can become a distraction to focusing on the Lord, listening for His voice, and obeying His priorities for the day.
Following the Lord is not a call to neglect, but it is a call to simplify and purify our priorities. What is the Lord telling us is our calling for this day? This must be our top priority. It is within those priorities that we discover “all things are possible with God” (v. 27). It is in living in this truth that we discover we have already walked through the gate into the kingdom of God.
