2 Chronicles 20:10-17

Paul reminded the church in Corinth, “God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong” (1 Corinthians 1:27). The nation of Judah was small. It was surrounded by larger and more powerful nations. Judah contained fine grazing and farmland, vineyards, date palm, olive and fig groves. Other nations coveted Judah’s abundance and strategic location.

Judah and King Jehoshaphat faced an overwhelming foe. “[M]en from Ammon, Moab and Mount Seir” were coming, determined to push the inhabitants of Judah out of their land (2 Chronicles 20:10). Jehoshaphat confessed Judah’s weakness against the “vast army” approaching. He told the Lord, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you” (20:12).

The Lord answered quickly. “[T]he Spirit of the Lord came on Jahaziel,” a temple servant, “Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s” (20:15).

Where are we weak? Let us call upon the Lord and listen for His Spirit’s message of hope. God still fights battles on behalf of His faithful ones.
