China or Melamine?

August 2nd, 2023

2 Timothy 2:20-26

Growing up, my mother set our everyday table with turquoise melamine. She knew we couldn’t break it if we tried. China was for company. She saved it for special occasions.

As Christians, God wants to use us as china in a melamine world. We can’t accomplish the transformation on our own because we can only clean up the outside. God always focuses on the inside, and the cleaning comes first. It must be because God cannot co-exist with impurity in any form.

We present ourselves for whatever He says must be cleaned: our speech, our attitudes, our motives, our values, our perspectives, anything that distorts His image in us. Then, He fills us with His holy presence. We are re-purposed for Him. He gives us a “noble” calling, often in ordinary places. There, He would use us to set a table for impoverished, broken, and wounded people. Cleaned and redesigned, we are ready for service.
