Listening To The Truth of the Spirit

July 29th, 2023

1 John 2:18-25

John was confronting those who had succumbed to heresies that had been circulating. John believed in the return of Jesus very soon. There is urgency in his warnings.

The antichrist is not someone who is a devil with horns. Rather, it is the person who preaches a message other than Christ crucified. What about today? Do such antichrists exist today? Definitely. There are people who distort the Word of God to be anything they want it to be.

We as believers must be cautious and mindful. The message of the gospel is wider, deeper, and more profound than what we can imagine—and so is God’s love. We must remain faithful to the message of God’s Word and be careful not to embrace our own understanding and seek to teach it to anyone who will listen.

The people labeled “antichrists” were those who knew the truth but expanded it to fit their own beliefs. As we confront the rapidly-changing culture, it is more important than ever that we allow the Holy Spirit to teach us the truth so that we don’t become liars.
