Don’t Be Afraid of Outsiders
July 27th, 2023
Acts 13:44-48
A strong biblical motif is the “insiders versus the outsiders.” The “insiders” are considered those who know the Scriptures, the laws of God, and at least pretend to adhere to them. The “outsiders” are often those who live on the fringes: the sick, the weak, the widowed, the orphaned, the poor.
Paul was preaching to the “insiders” of Jewish society: those who devoutly followed the law. Yet rather than listening attentively to the gospel message of eternal life through Christ, they rejected it. While Paul was saddened that the Jews didn’t see themselves as “worthy of eternal life,” he wasn’t deterred. If the “insiders” would not listen to the message, he was certain there were some “outsiders” who would.
We are likely to run into some who reject the truth of the gospel and salvation through Christ. Let us not become discouraged with the work before us. When we are rejected, we must move forward to seek those who are eager for the message of eternal life through Christ. Don’t be afraid to go to the “outsiders.” God wants to love them into His kingdom through you.
