God’s Presence Stays

2 Corinthians 1:1-7
Some people I know have a hard time letting go of the bad things that have happened to them. This is particularly true for those with eidetic memories–what has been called a photographic memory. A friend remembers anyone who mistreated her.
I blissfully remember all of those people in my life who were kind to me. There was Steve in fifth grade, who had a whole lunchroom table full of taunting children apologizing to me before lunch was over. There was Rhina, with whom I worked, who never said an unkind word to me. My mom could always think of positive words to say about anyone, and she would share them when others were criticizing someone.
2 Corinthians 1 describes God in two ways: Father of compassion and God of all comfort. This verse causes me to evaluate myself. Am I compassionate? Are others comforted when they see me coming? Will they leave my presence closer to God? Am I reflecting God in my everyday life? Take a moment and evaluate yourself.
