Handle With Care

Proverbs 10:11-16
Words. They’ve started wars, ruined relationships, ended marriages, betrayed trust, destroyed confidence, robbed identity, and caused more catastrophes than Mount Vesuvius’s eruption. The gift of words should come with a warning: Handle with care.
The problem with words is that we use them without thinking. We need a gatekeeper for our words. That’s when we look to Jesus, the Word-become-flesh. When we examine the Word that walked among us, review His good words that healed, warned, encouraged, taught, we understand that our words should be a “fountain of life.”
If you want to know the power and elusiveness of words, try this. Before the sun goes down, put feathers on the sidewalk leading to several houses. The next morning, see how many feathers you can retrieve. Spoken words are just like the irretrievable feathers. For that reason, think twice before you speak so that your words share life, hope, joy, mercy, and forgiveness.
