God’s Deliverance

Mark 15:1-8
One of the amazing facts of Scripture are the many Old Testament accounts which predict the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus (Isaiah 7:14; Isaiah 53, Psalm 16:10, and so on).
Symbolism also plays a huge part in the gospel story. For example, Mark 15 refers to Barabbas. In Aramaic, Bar-ab-bas means “son of a father” or “son who is like a father.” It shouldn’t be lost on us the juxtaposition these two men, Barabbas and Jesus bring to the story. One represents the son of Adam, the curse. The other represents the Son of God, the remedy. One was chasing political transformation. The other was representing a transformation of love. One had the favor of the crowd (v. 8) while the other gave His life out of love for the crowd.
What an amazing, humbling thought that Jesus, the Son of God—the Son of our Father—would bear our sins on the cross out of love for a crowd who favored insurrection over transformation.
