Lead with a Heart of Integrity

January 18th, 2023

Psalm 78:65-72

There is a seemingly purposeless locked gate blocking the way to a great view of the lake near my childhood home. I have come to realize that there are two types of people who encounter the gate. The rule followers say, “We cannot go over it or around it because its purpose is to keep us out.” The risk takers say, “It’s okay to climb over it or go around it because there is no one here to see us.”

Character is what a person does when no one is watching. Integrity is when a person’s character is righteous. Those who choose to respect the intention of the gate, even when no one else is around, are choosing integrity.

Every day there are choices to make. Each righteous choice builds character with integrity. What happens when we give into temptation? It is said that David led with “integrity of heart” (Psalm 78:72). David was not flawless, but he was forgiven. We can also repent for past decisions and choose to lead with “integrity of heart” with God’s grace and guidance.
