Committed to Live In The Light
November 20th, 2022
1 Peter 4:12-19
Peter echoes Jesus’ words in Matthew 5:11, “Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you . . . because of Me.” This is the sort of suffering according to the will of God that Peter talks about. That doesn’t mean that all suffering results from good Christian conduct. When we suffer because of our loyalty to Christ, because we have resolved to be faithful to the values of His kingdom, which is in conflict with the values of this world, we may be sure that God is with us every step of the way.
Therefore, we do not shy away from suffering or just “hang in there,” but are able to rejoice in the midst of it. That doesn’t mean we should seek out suffering, but when it happens, we can trust God who is faithful and continue to do what is right in His eyes as an expression of that trust. Faith is a commitment to live in the light and be the light even in the midst of suffering.
