Abundance and Holiness

Proverbs 22:4-15
The duality presented in Proverbs 22 is important to note. Humility is juxtaposed against the fear of the Lord because the two are inextricably linked. Humility is the way we see ourselves. Fear of the Lord is the way we see God. If we exalt ourselves too highly, we won’t be able to get out of our own way in order to truly honor and worship the Lord. On the flip side, if we have a poor understanding of who God is, we’ll have a poor understanding of who we are. A healthy view of God begets a healthy view of self. They are connected. No way around it.
There is no substitute for being in harmony with your Creator and being fully aware of, and comfortable with, who you are. In this life, these healthy relationships will bring joy. These relationships will not necessarily bring riches to your bank account, but abundance to your life. They will not necessarily bring honor to your public name but a greater honor, a holiness that sets you apart. Humble yourself and fear the Lord, and you will know life with all the true riches and honor it has to offer.
