Sin Is Trouble
October 20th, 2022
Proverbs 11:1-8
We’re not so spiritually shallow as to take this proverb at face value, right? Obviously righteous people experience trouble every day. Christians face persecution around the world. Christians die of cancer. Christians struggle with mental health. Yes, in this world, we will have trouble.
It’s easy to take this proverb, then, and make it instead about our eschatology. The end. This life is temporary. If we are heaven-minded, we won’t get so bogged down in this world’s troubles. This is certainly true and hopeful, but it’s incomplete. We believe in this life being transformed, not just waiting it out!
What brings us the most trouble? Sin. Sin brings death. What could be more trouble than that? We know that we are made right, made new, and made holy through our relationship with a risen Savior. In this way, the righteous person is indeed rescued from trouble, and not just in the end. A holy life is possible on this side of glorification through the sanctifying grace of God. Sin doesn’t stand a chance.
