Exodus 16:31-36
During school breaks or the summer, it is often my responsibility to get lunch ready for my three children. I’ll ask them, “What do you want for lunch today?” Almost always the answer comes back the same. “A peanut butter and jelly sandwich.” While this is certainly in part because my culinary skills are a great deal less than my wife’s, it’s also because my children aren’t bothered by eating pretty much the same thing every day.
Apparently, the same is true for the people of Israel. For forty years, they ate manna every day. They ate the same thing every day for four decades. That’s a long time to be eating the same diet day after day after day, which makes it a little easier to understand why they did grumble about it a time or two.
More importantly though, we see the depth of God’s provision. For forty years, the people have lived a nomadic life of wilderness wandering and haven’t had to worry about farming or hunting. Throughout those forty years, God provided them with their daily food without end and without fail.

Amen and amen. What amazes me even more is that their garments did not wear out nor did their feet swell those forty years. Deuteronomy 8:4 Amazing! Praise God.
