Looking in the Mirror

James 1:19-27
Imagine a world without any mirrors. There is no way to fix your hair before you walk outside. You have no way to make sure that your tie is straight or that your teeth don’t have anything stuck in them. Now for some people, that sounds amazing. But for most people, they would miss out on the feedback that the mirror provides before facing the world around them.
The author of James says that God’s Word is like a mirror: it helps us see what needs to change in our lives before we go out into the world. In James 1:25, we read, “whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.” God’s Word brings us freedom to be who we were created to be when we reflect on, and continue in it.
The good news is that the mirror of God’s Word brings freedom, not condemnation, when we reflect on it and adjust our lives to the truth that we are confronted with. Have you looked today?
