Hebrews 3:7-19

Who has most significantly influenced your spiritual formation? The first person to come to your mind is probably a parent, teacher, coach, coworker, or possibly a pastor. Likely it’s someone you respect, someone whose positive example provides a role model for you to follow.

What’s interesting about the author of the book of Hebrews is that this writer asks us to consider the positive example of Moses and Jesus, as well as the negative example of the children of Israel, as motivation for us on our discipleship journey. The author calls us to consider the consequences of the actions of the Hebrews as they wandered in the wilderness due to their lack of trust in God as we navigate our own journey of faith. Just as we can learn from the faithful example of others, we also can learn from the faithless example of others.

When you’re confronted with a choice between belief and unbelief, faithfulness and faithlessness, consider the example of those who have struggled to place their trust in God. Choose to continue to move forward in faith.

Is it possible to receive Reflecting God through the mail? Our church doesn’t hand it out. I do read it off the computer.
