In God’s Image

Genesis 1:26-31
What does it mean to be created in the image of God? Some say, “It means we carry a spark of God about with us everywhere we go.” Others say, “It means our personalities—our creativity, our generosity, our impulse toward kindness—are based in God’s character.”
We like to feel significant, and so we think that the image of God is all about something special deep down within us—something we either own, or we don’t. But what if the image of God is an ever-renewed gift, an event that occurs in relationship, not ownership?
The image of God is not a statement about us, it is a statement about our Creator, who held nothing back in creating us—not even His very self. To be bearers of the image is not like holding a valuable property, but rather like having a relationship with a loving Father who has poured everything into us.
Live each day pouring yourself back into the God who poured himself into you.
