Hebrews 2:5-13

There are three words you’ve likely never noticed that convey the unfathomable width of God’s love for the world and the incomprehensible depth of God’s love for you: “it was fitting” (Hebrews 2:10).

What was fitting? It was fitting that the God of heaven should bring so many to glory through the suffering of His Son. It was fitting that our holy God would behave in this shocking (and quite seemingly ungodlike) way, by creating family with the unholy and shamelessly sanctifying them (v. 11).

Why was it fitting? It was fitting because people have noticed God acting like this before. The author of Hebrews is marveling at the joyously expansive nature of the love of God, while at the same time telling us: We should have known. This  God of ours has always behaved this way: loving us when we had no right to be noticed, remembering us when we were beneath concern.

It was fitting that God should make a family out of sinners, because we always knew God was like this. He has always remembered us, even at our lowest. That changes everything.
