Purity and Power
May 3rd, 2022
Acts 19:11-20
Luke provides a description of an incredibly unique time in the Church. There were extraordinary accounts of healing and deliverance from evil spirits. The power of the Holy Spirit was unleashed and as a result, new believers purged their valuable sorcery paraphernalia. Although these were days of powerful miracles, they were also days of purity. Purity without power is useless, and power without purity is dangerous. There must be a balance. When purity and power are balanced with anointing of the Holy Spirit, lives are changed.
The hero of the story is the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit’s power and purity can be experienced today. Many congregations long for an out-pouring of the Holy Spirit. Only the Spirit can open the eyes of our hearts. Only the Spirit can bring liberty, freedom, and joy. We are never encouraged in scripture to seek “the spectacular,” instead we are called to worship God. The Spirit encourages us to confess our sins, and when we do, our congregations will discover renewed purity and power.
