God Be Near

Psalm 27:7-14
People have shared with me that being forsaken by someone who was supposed to love you, be it a spouse, a parent, or a close friend, creates a grief more painful than a grief caused by death. The pain of having someone choose to walk away from you generates an incredibly deep wound. The betrayal of someone so close can injure our trust in others.
The Psalmist cries out that though others around have forsaken him, God would continue to remain faithful. It’s a prayer many of us have prayed. It’s a prayer that often lacks eloquence in moments of desperation. It’s a prayer of murmured cries and groans of “God be near” spoken in hospital rooms, in empty bedrooms, at so many moments of despair and tragedy.
God is near. Though it might be hard to see through blinding tears and broken hearts, God is ever faithful even when everyone else has failed. God hears those uttered cries. God is near because God is still good, even in the midst of the mess.
When you find yourself in moments of pain, draw near to God. God is near to you.
