Undeniably God’s Children
December 31st, 2021
Matthew 5:38-48
Stefanie and her husband have three children. The first and third look a lot like Stefanie and her side of the family. The middle child is a miniature of his father. Because they live near the town her husband grew up in, Stefanie hears that remark about her middle child often, “I know who he belongs to!” It’s undeniable that those three belong to them.
As their children grow, it has been fascinating to observe just how much they are a part of their larger family. They also have similar mannerisms. Their middle son will sit with his head in his hand when he is concentrating just as his paternal grandfather did.
When we are children of God, we begin to look and act like God. People will begin to notice our similarities to God the Father (really, they may notice that we are different from the world, which points them to Christ). As our relationship with Christ deepens, it will be undeniable who we belong to. What does God look like? What does God do? “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” That is undeniably of God.

When we don’t feel like doing that, God can change us so that we WANT to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us.
