What Are You Waiting For?

Luke 2:36-40
My family decided to adopt a puppy a few years ago. We ended up with a fluff-ball that is part Cavalier Spaniel and part Poodle. Ginger is smart and very friendly (I remind her that not everyone loves her as much as she loves them). Ginger is also a constant companion. She loves to be with people. This isn’t really surprising when you consider who she is: Cavalier Spaniels were often kept by nobility as lap dogs. These dogs were bred to be constant companions.
Like Simeon, Anna had been waiting on the Lord for a long time. What strikes me most about the prophetess Anna, is her constant companionship with the Lord. Luke tells us, “She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying” (v. 37). She never left the presence of God, and her service to God. Never. In order for that to be true, I believe it had to be a part of who Anna was. It wasn’t a fluke that she never left. It wasn’t just stubbornness that kept her there. Anna was a constant companion. God honored her with a meeting with the Christ child.
