Genesis 12:1-9
We all have networks of friends. Sometimes these groups overlap, but more often than not we have autonomous groups of friends that rarely, if ever, interact. God designed us to be friends with both believers and unbelievers. He called us to be a light while we are careful to be the influencers and not be influenced.
Abram lived with his extended family even though they didn’t serve God. God recognized that Abram was in danger because he was tempted by his father’s sinful household. That’s when God commanded the seventy-five-year-old Abram to leave his country, his people, and his family. In return God promised to show him a new land, make him a great nation, bless his name, and bless those who blessed him.
There is no record of Abram questioning God, he simply obeyed! What sounded at first as a harsh, confusing command, was actually the incredible love of God protecting Abram from corrupt company and through Abram’s obedience God grew a great nation.
