God Is Up To Something

Luke 4:1-14
Luke tells us that after a glorious baptism scene, with voices thundering from heaven and the Spirit descending as a dove (3:21-22), Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, is led by that very same Spirit into the wilderness to be tested.
The wilderness is a place of preparation and testing. Israel spent 40 years in the desert in preparation for their time in the promised land. Here Jesus is pictured as spending 40 days in the desert in preparation for His future ministry. It is important to notice that Jesus’ time in the desert is not a result of God’s neglect, but a direct result of God’s guidance, the result of the Spirit’s working and leading in His life.
When we, the people of God, are in the desert, it means that God is up to something. He has not abandoned us, but rather He is leading us and shaping us to prepare us for our mission in the world.
The wilderness with its temptations is a scary place to be. Hold on and take heart! God is up to something!
