Power From on High

Luke 24:40-53
The disciples had received authority and power to cast out demons and to heal the sick. What was this power from on high that they had to wait for? It is the Pentecost gift of the Holy Spirit, God’s love poured out in our hearts, the Spirit of adoption through which we cry ‘Abba! Father!’ It is the guiding, purifying, and empowering Holy Spirit.
Do we live through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, or through the guidance of the flesh? Is our faith resting in the wisdom of humans or in the power of God? These are key questions for us today. Have we learned to remain in Christ, and Christ in us, through the indwelling Holy Spirit? This learning is at the heart of discipleship. Where are we in our Christian journey? We can discover the joy of repentance, that opens the door to a deeper fellowship with God. When we let go of the small idols that pull our attention away from God’s sovereign love, we can know God more fully.
Jesus, as we come before you today, show us where we are standing, and where you want us to be. Fill us with your Holy Spirit and guide us in the way everlasting.
