Earthly Tent and Eternal Home
October 2nd, 2021
2 Corinthians 5:1-10
My 10-year-old son likes nature and facts about nature. Recently he learned that if a bear smells food, very little will stop it from finding the food. Especially something as flimsy as a canvas tent. Following his nose, the bear will rip through the top of a tent to find his prize.
This shouldn’t be surprising to us. After all, a grizzly bear in North America can weight anywhere from 200 to 700 pounds. A little tent can’t stand in the way. We, too, are little in the grand scheme of life. We have an “earthly tent” which will one day die. We cannot stop earthly death.
We can, however, live as children of God, knowing what God has prepared for us. God has built us an eternal home that is indestructible. We do not need to fear death. We move from our earthly tent to an eternal home.
The blessing we have besides this promise is the joy of living here and now as children of God. We need not bide our time for later but allow God to build His kingdom through our earthly lives.
