Genesis 16:7-16
Genesis 16 is a difficult passage in so many ways. Hagar was fleeing from Abram and Sarai. She did not want to go back. Abram was not fully trusting in God; trying to bring about the promise in his own way. Sarai treated Hagar so terribly that Hagar ran away. God told Hagar to go back to Sarai.
While this is a tough passage, the part of the passage that is most significant is Genesis 16:13. Amid all this mess between Abram, Sarai, and Hagar, God sees Hagar. God cares! Hagar recognizes that God sees her in the midst of her plight.
This is good news for us today. God sees us. We are not left alone in our difficult days. Our God is the God who saw Hagar then and sees us now. No matter what we are going through God sees us. God desires to be with us. God loves us so much and He sees us in every part of life; the good, the bad, and the in between.
