Ephesians 2:11-22

When I first moved to my new house, I met my next-door neighbor, who is a Pakistani Muslim. We exchanged pleasantries, spoke of our families, and he told me he would be a “neighbor of peace.” I asked what he meant by it, and he said he would not create trouble or do any harm. I thanked him and said that I, too, would be a neighbor of peace. I explained that I have peace in my life, and that would act accordingly. He was curious about having personal peace.

The world’s concept of peace is about doing peaceful things, but Jesus was clear that peace was much more than that, it was personal and spiritual at the same time. The word of God tells us, “He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near” (Ephesians 2:17). That peace is for our neighbor, but also for those who are far away. As Jesus preached peace, we too preach through our words, our actions, and our love for others.

I have had many conversations with my neighbor ever since we became friends, and I pray I continue to show the peace I have in Christ.
