Distracted Driving
April 7th, 2021
Colossians 3:1-11
A few years ago, a distracted dump truck driver left his job site with the bed of the truck still raised. Before he realized what was happening, he had knocked down 15 utility poles and left an entire block without electricity. Distractions lead to destruction. It happens in our faith too.
Distractions make it easier to give in to temptation. We miss out on the warning signs. We lose sight of what matters most. We quickly end up leaving a giant mess in our wake. There are many things clamoring for our attention and any of them can pull our focus away from God. We can find ourselves so distracted that we miss what God is trying to do in our lives.
“Set your mind on things above.” This simple advice helps reorient our attention, focusing on God’s promises and truths rather than the world around us. No matter what noise is going on in your life today, no matter how good or bad, don’t lose sight of what is most true. Set your mind on things above. Take time to pause and listen.
