Romans 2:25-29

Pastor Carol received a frantic call from the father of a newborn son. “Pastor, come quickly to the hospital! They are about to circumcise the baby. We need you to do the official circumcision ceremony!” “Oh my!” Pastor Carol thought, “they didn’t teach me that one in seminary.”

The young parents were not educated and were tender-hearted new Christians. So, Pastor Carol rushed off, praying for God to use her in this teachable moment.

It did give her the chance to disciple them about God’s original covenant with the Jews through Abraham (Genesis 17). Yahweh would always be faithful to His people. She also explained the real meaning of circumcision—having our hearts freed to love God totally (Deuteronomy 30:6) and how Jesus came to make that possible (Galatians 5:6, 6:15).

John Wesley taught about perfect love. It means to love wholly God and one’s neighbor as oneself. One’s actions may not be completely perfect but the motives or intentions of the heart are made pure. Have you entered into this experience? You can.
