Romans 2:17-24

There is a great weight upon those who teach and preach to be certain they speak the truth and point people toward God’s paths of righteousness. Yet we should pay close attention to the fact that we are all teachers in the sense that how we live reflects on God.

Christians keep their eyes fixed upon Jesus, the author and perfecter of their faith. The world and their children, however, look primarily upon the Christians and the Church to catch their earliest glimpses of what God is like. How tragic would it be if they cursed God because of what they saw in our lives or heard in our teachings.

St. Patrick, the missionary saint to Ireland is quoted as saying, “I was freeborn according to the flesh; I am born of a father who was a decurion, but I sold my noble rank—I blush not to state it, nor am I sorry—for the profit of others. In short, I am a slave in Christ to a foreign nation for the unspeakable glory of the eternal life which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

We, too, are the light for the world.
