Affirmed and Confirmed

John 3:7-17
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy an accolade now and then. Human beings have need for such occasional affirmation. It’s motivating fuel to keep doing our best work. It also lets us know that we’re on the right track, doing what we need to be doing. It could also be said that it confirms that what we are doing matters and is important.
The Son of God didn’t need motivating, affirmed or confirmed. Jesus Christ knew the work He had been and would do was right on track. He knew the deep importance and was fully willing to bring His Father’s plan to completion. However, humanity needed to know the importance and necessity of Jesus’ work.
John 3 very clearly explains the importance of Jesus’ physical presence in the world. It explains that God so loved His flawed humans that He willingly sent His only Son, the picture of perfection and innocence, to die for our less than perfect choices. And then for the big finish, the resurrection of Jesus, which provided a way for humanity to enjoy the option of eternal life.
