1 Peter 2:1-10
Paul continues to breathe life and hope into a people who are marked for death by their choice to follow a living Christ. Each of us who are marked for death, both to sin and in these bodies, becomes a living testimony of the life that can only be found in Jesus.
Following Christ is a flipping of the paradigm: To live is to die and to die is to gain. The last are first. Those who mourn are blessed. The carnal and temporary acts of eating and drinking lead to eternal fulfillment at the Eucharist.
Peter reminds a group of people who are facing death and who are living under the boot of a merciless empire, that they are chosen, they are royal, and that they belong to God. Their circumstances did not determine their worth to God.
May God give us spiritual insight to peer through the paradigms of faith and find hope in our lives.
