Who Are You Following?

1 John 3:1-10

Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have developed algorithms that can discern our interests based upon what we search for, or click on, while using their service. Search for gardening help and suddenly you start seeing ads for garden products. Search for online colleges and suddenly every page contains ads for education. ISPs do this to drive ad revenue. That is a major way they get paid for the service they provide. Of course, if you search for things that appeal to sinful desires you will find that, too. Following such things can lead to bondage and ruin.

Who are you following? You don’t need an internet connection to be following someone or something. Do you follow a religious leader? A particular news network? Who are your heroes? Who do you want to be like? Ask yourself, “Is the person or ideology I am following righteous in God’s eyes?” If not, why am I following it?

If you are a child of God, follow Him. We become like the thing we follow. “But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him” (1 John 3:2b).
