Romans 13:8-14
John finally saved the money to put a down payment on a new work truck. His old truck ran fine, so he offered it for sale. A man who worked in the same factory with John heard about the truck and offered to buy it. John took the money from the sale and added it to his down payment. He was soon driving his new truck.
A while later John entered the factory break room. The man who bought his truck was loudly proclaiming John to be a liar and cheat. John confronted him. The man said that the truck’s engine had failed and was now worthless. He said John must have known about the problem before he sold the truck. John explained he didn’t, but the man persisted, telling anyone who would listen.
John was a believer. John knew he had not cheated the man. He had made no warranty on the vehicle. Yet, John went and borrowed the money to buy the truck back. He didn’t have to do it, but he did. Because, as he said, “They all know I am a Christian, and I didn’t want a truck to damage my witness.”
How are you actively protecting your witness for Christ?
