A Reputation To Keep

Psalm 25:1-12
As a teenager, when I would go out with friends, my mother would offer this reminder: “Remember who you are.” I knew what she meant. As I faced various choices over the course of the evening, she wanted to remind me that every choice I made would either enhance our family or hurt it.
The Psalmist recognizes this as well. He recognizes that he has not been as faithful in his actions toward God as he should have been, and he has not consistently honored God’s name. His inconsistency actually taints the name of the very God he says he follows. So, he does the only thing he knows to do—he asks God to demonstrate mercy and to remember he needs forgiveness.
Every action we take, every word we speak, either honors God or brings His name into disrepute. You and I are called to imitate God in all that we do. Only then, will our lives faithfully represent the God we serve and ensure others see God for Who He really is.
Remember, you’re a child of God. Live like it.
