People See God Through Us

Ezekiel 36:16-27
Onomatopoeia is when a word’s pronunciation imitates its sound, when the utterance itself is reminiscent of the sound to which the word refers. Popular examples include words like buzz, drip, groan, and squeak.
In Ezekiel 36, God is concerned His people do not “sound” like Him. We read that the other nations no longer see God as having importance. Why? Because of the way the people of Israel were living. Because they were disobedient, God has expelled them from His land so it could be purified. They had not imitated God. When others looked at the disobedient people who were prone to idolatry and violence, what they saw was an impotent god, one of no importance.
Think about your life. When others see what you do, hear your speech, or see how you react, do they recognize the God of Scripture? Or do they see an impotent god who has no authority? The understanding most people have of God will come as a result of watching us. So, what does your life tell others about God?
