Theology with a Preschooler
September 16th, 2020
Matthew 22:34-40
I have a four-year-old son who is very observant, sometimes very intuitive, and always has lots of questions. His questions range from “why is the sky blue,” to “have you ever seen an elephant with a trunk on his leg,” to “where is Jesus and why did He have to die?”. Having to explain things to him that I have taken for granted has helped me see things in a new light. His questions have tested my patience, strengthened my faith, and at times tested my theological degrees. I missed the seminary class on talking theology with your preschooler.
Most of us have probably heard today’s verse before. As you read it today, think about how you would describe what it means to someone who had never heard of Jesus. What does it mean to love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind? What does that look like in our everyday lives? How would that impact our communities? Why would you live that way?
Now flip those questions around. Are you living those answers?
