Not A Move Without Him
September 3rd, 2020
Numbers 9:15-23
We are a restless people. It has been estimated that Americans move an average of 11.7 times in their lives. I once pastored along the Front Range of Colorado. The town where I lived, Longmont, was a town of about 8,000 at the end of World War II. When I moved there it was home to some 45,000. Now it has nearly 100,000 residents. Many came for jobs in the growing high-tech industry. Some came to be near the beauty and recreation opportunities of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Others came, quite frankly, to get away from somewhere else. They believed they could “start over again” with a new job, a new home, even a new spouse. Sadly, their old problems had a way of following them.
“At the LORD’S command the Israelites set out, and at his command they encamped” (Numbers 9:18). Unfortunately, the Israelites soon learned the all-to-hard lesson of moving without God’s leadership (See Numbers 14:36-45). Too many times we restlessly set out without first checking on God’s will. It is always best to go with Him.
