Aware of our Sin
August 12th, 2020
Leviticus 4:27-31
We wrestle with, “Be holy as I am holy.” The reality of sin is at work in our individual hearts and in all of creation. The Israelites dealt with this guilt through sacrifice. Christ’s words and the law of God’s people seem to contradict each other. It is impossible to be holy if humanity’s state is so deprived that we sin unintentionally.
The only hope we have is the blood of Christ which ends this vicious cycle. Through death, comes life. This is an invitation into relationship—back into the garden where God and Adam and Eve walked together in the cool of the day.
Adam and Eve reveal to us the disease of our human nature that Leviticus 4 then tries to heal with laws and rituals. True life comes only when we enter into the garden of God’s grace. The sin of Adam and Eve expelled them from Eden, but God sent Jesus to walk with us in our wilderness. His blood is our invitation back to where we belong.
