Psalm 15:1-5

When I read Psalm 15, my mind jumps to Micah 6:8, “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.  And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” In both cases, the writer wants to capture in a few clear images what it means to live for God.

While bribery may not be a huge issue in certain cultures, in others, navigating how to live without paying bribes is a huge issue. David writes from a time and a society where the giving of one’s word, the lending of money, and the temptation of bribery were routine parts of one’s life.

Today, in your culture, the temptations to compromise may look different, but the heart of this psalm remains the same. In the kingdom of Christ, the “here but not yet” kingdom, we who are the body of Christ are to live our lives embodying the ethic and the character of Christ.

What are the areas of cultural compromise with which you are struggling today?
