Acts 17:10-15

There are 168 hours in a week. In those 168 hours, we are inundated with many voices trying to tell us how we ought to be living our life. They tell us how we ought to think, believe, and spend our money. We have 168 hours of being formed by an ethic other than the kingdom of God.

The church has, maybe, two hours a week to shape and form us as God’s people. A 166:2 ratio isn’t helpful if we are simply depending on the time we are at church to form us into kingdom people. Church attendance is vital, but it will not keep us.

If we want to be kingdom people, we must be shaped by the Word of God, just as the Berean Jews of Acts 17. The only thing that will keep us from being formed more by the world than by the kingdom is to be rooted in the Scriptures. Being rooted in the Word will enable us to withstand the pressures and competing voices we hear in the world. The Word of God will keep us.
