Ezra 2:1-2, 61-70
Our God is faithful and wants to weave the brokenness of life into something beautiful. In Ezra 2, the people of Israel had been in a season of exile. Here, however, we see families reunited and brought back from the Babylonian captivity which had scattered them.
It is interesting to note, however, the list of those who returned in this first wave were but a small fraction of those who had experienced captivity and exile. There was much joy and celebration for those who returned. History and tradition tell us that many chose not to return. Perhaps they had built wealth they didn’t want to leave behind. Perhaps there were relationships, or other ties holding them to their new place.
Our God is certainly a God who renews and restores. The question that must haunt us all is will we let Him? And, is He still God Almighty even if the road to redemption is marked with grief, suffering, and life-altering disappointment?
