Jesus Is The Good Shepherd

John 10:11-21
“Shepherd” is one of the main images Jesus uses for himself. In John 10, Jesus refers to himself as the good shepherd. In the midst of all the talk about Jesus as a shepherd, it’s easy to overlook the possibility that not all shepherds are good.
There are people in the world who run away at the first sign of real trouble. When the going gets tough, they get going somewhere else. They’re only looking out for themselves. They’re bad shepherds.
Jesus, by contrast, is the good shepherd who will lay down His life for the sheep. He won’t leave when the howl of the wolf is heard in the middle of the night, because His priority isn’t saving His own skin. He’s there for the sheep. He’s always looking for more sheep, for He knows He can care for them all through thick and thin.
Maybe you’ve suffered at the hands of a bad shepherd or two. Understand today Jesus isn’t that kind of shepherd. He’s the good shepherd, and under His care is the only place to be.
