Matthew 13:10-17

How tragic to be among those whose hearts are so calloused they are no longer able to turn and be healed. For something to be calloused means it is hardened, thickened, feeling no emotion, indifferent, soul-less. A callous develops from friction or irritation over a long period of time, usually there is ample opportunity to treat the symptoms before the condition becomes set.

We understand preventative health-care for our bodies, but what about for our souls? Matthew 13 is about calloused hearts, a cruel soul-sickness we can avoid! Get a balm to soothe whatever friction is assaulting your heart. Seek out spiritual counsel to deal with the irritant now before it becomes critical.

Jesus desires to preserve your ability to turn toward Him so that He can heal you! Jesus acknowledged how stubborn the disease of a calloused heart is, yet He offered the hopeful promise of Ezekiel 36:26, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.”

I have always set a goal to keep a tender heart by not holding bitterness when God shows me I am bitter. Thankful that God is so faithful.
